Cousins President Dan DuPree named vice chairman (AP)

ATLANTA (AP) -- Real estate investment trust Cousins Properties Inc. said Tuesday President and Chief Operating Officer Dan DuPree has been named vice chairman.

The company said Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer Larry Gellerstedt has replaced DuPree as president and COO.

DuPree, 62, founded New Market Development Company Ltd. in 1984 and sold the company to Cousins in 1992.

Gellerstedt, 52, joined Cousins Properties following the acquisition of his firm, The Gellerstedt Group, in June 2005.

Amid a steep downturn in the broader market, shares of Cousins lost 81 cents, or 9.7 percent, to close at $7.54. The stock earlier hit a new year low of $7.51. It has traded in a 52-week range of $8.01 to $29.22.
