The Maine Land Use Regulation Commission gave its blessing last September to the project that includes nearly 1,000 house lots, two resorts and more than 400,000 acres of land conservation.

But Brownie Carson of the Natural Resources Council of Maine says there must be a demonstrated need for the development to win approval. He says Maine's real estate market has tanked and there are upward of 125 home lots on the market in the Moosehead region.

LURC heard final arguments Tuesday. The planning agency for Maine's unorganized territories is expected to render a final decision this summer.
