WHITESTOWN, Ind. (AP) -- Oregon-based bootmaker LaCrosse Footwear Inc. on Thursday said it will build a national distribution center in the central Indiana town of Whitestown.

The company said it plans to consolidate two LaCrosse, Wis., centers into a 380,000-square-foot building about 20 miles northwest of Indianapolis. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. said the move will create 30 jobs.

Company officials first said last month they were interested in the Indianapolis area. They say about 70 percent of their domestic customers can be reached within a day's drive of Indianapolis.

LaCrosse will hire managers, supervisors and other employees next year, when the new center will open. It will complement an existing one LaCrosse operates in Portland, Ore.

The distribution center will be developed through a joint venture between ProLogis, an industrial real estate investment trust, and Browning Investments Inc., an Indianapolis-based commercial real estate developer.
