GFI Group in talks with Tullett Prebon on merger (AP)

NEW YORK (AP) -- Brokerage GFI Group says it is in talks with Tullett Prebon about a possible combination of their operations.

GFI Group cautions that the non-exclusive talks will not necessarily lead to a deal being completed. No terms of a potential deal were specified.

GFI Group is an inter-dealer broker specializing in derivatives and related products. Tullett Prebon is an inter-broker dealer specializing in rates and foreign exchange and a provider of real-time pricing.

Shares of GFI Group Inc. rose $1.76, or 19.4 percent, to $10.83 in afternoon trading.
