“This is a proud and exciting moment for me,” said Robert C. Golden, executive vice president and head of Corporate Operations & Systems at Prudential. “I am thrilled that Computerworld has acknowledged Prudential as one of the best workplaces for information technology professionals. We have worked very hard to make sure that we offer IT professionals a robust suite of employee benefits as well as exciting opportunities to be a part of Prudential’s success.”
Prudential is ranked 25 on Computerworld’s annual list. Since 1994, Computerworld’s “Best Places to Work in IT” feature has ranked the top IT work environments based on a comprehensive questionnaire covering benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention. In addition, this year Computerworld surveyed more than 27,000 IT workers for the list, and their responses factored heavily in determining the rankings. The 2009 results are published in the June 15 issue of Computerworld and online at Computerworld.com.
“One very significant way that Prudential stands out among our competitors is through our focus on practices, policies and principles that acknowledge and honor our greatest asset – our employees,” said Prudential CIO Barbara Koster, senior vice president and head of Corporate Technology Management. “We fully recognize that our employees have personal lives and interests outside of the workplace, and we are committed to providing the flexibility they need to balance the demands of their work and personal responsibilities. We invest in technologies that truly enable employees’ alternative work arrangements and we have trained managers how to supervise and support staff members on non-traditional work plans.”
She added that Prudential’s remote access technology enables employees to be ‘in the office’ anytime, anywhere using a variety of computer and telephone options including personal computers, Macs, Blackberries or other PDAs and more. In addition, Koster said, Prudential deploys a voice technology called “Avaya’s Softphone” that gives employees remote access to their office telephone. “We continue to look for ways to adopt and use new technologies to further enhance remote access in support of alternative work arrangements,” said Koster.
In announcing the top IT workplaces, Scot Finnie, editor-in-chief of Computerworld, said, “To be among the Best Places to Work in IT, it's not enough just to seek out and hire the most talented IT people, offer them competitive pay and provide great benefits. The organizations that made this year's Best Places to Work list sustain a dynamic work environment in which IT professionals keep their hands on the latest technologies and work on projects that are business critical.”
Prudential’s technology development and support subsidiary, Pramerica Systems Ireland, located in Ireland, was voted one of the "50 Best Companies to Work for in Ireland" in 2007 and 2005 by the Great Place to Work® Institute Ireland. In addition, Prudential’s commitment to diversity, competitive benefits and its people-focused culture also earned the company awards and accolades as a top workplace by organizations such as DiversityInc., Working Mother magazine, Hispanic Business magazine., Human Rights Campaign, Essence magazine, Careers and the disAbled magazine and the National Association for Female Executives.
